The Tracked Robot Project 2010

Introduction

The goal of this project is to get people involved with robotics by having a common chassis that they can build on and make their own. The electroncis used will be up to the individual as will the programming language used. Getting people involved is important to have an active, healthy group, which will best serve the members and our community. We have the desire to teach young minds new skills and technology... what is needed are the platforms and tools to capture their interest. This should be a good starting point... a place to start, to learn, and from which we can grow.

The robot chassis is designed to be cut from wood that is available at Lowes or Home Depot, common 1/4 inch (6mm) poplar, oak, or ash. The advantage of wood over other materials is that it can be worked with simple hand tools, is not expensive, and is easy to obtain. Once we have constructed a few of these robots we can learn how to make the next generation even better, smarter, and more exciting. I do not see this as being a perfect robot platform... but rather just a place to start... a beginning.
